ON CREANGA Secondary School - Local Education OPPORTUNITIES- debate and workshop 16 members of the Discoverers Club of the “ION CREANGA” Secondary School, Iași, took part on Tuesday, February 18th , 2020, in a debate entitled Local Education Opportunities, held under the auspices of ERASMUS +, at the “VIRGIL MADGEARU” Vocational High School. They also participated in a workshop in which 10 students in the 11th grade were the trainers. The students found quite attractive local educational offers in the field of public nutrition. In the second part of the activity, the students worked in six mixed groups in a high school laboratory, each team making pastry products with and without sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), sodium chloride (NaCl), ammonium acid bicarbonate (NaH4HCO3 ). The technological process involved: kneading, molding, baking, filling the sheets and the cookies and finally, presenting the products. Finally, the products were tasted and the students realized that the yeast plays a role in increasing the amount of dough, the baking soda makes it more tender and that the bread is tastier with salt in it. And from a chemical point of view, they observed that NaCl enhances the taste of the other ingredients, NaHCO3 loosens the dough, NH4HCO3 grinds, and the yeast is a microscopic fungus that releases carbon dioxide and causes the dough to grow.
